The 5 Goals where established by our Founder Grand Master Park to remind each student of the fundamental principles inherent in traditional martial arts. The Goals are recited in each class. And NEW students are required to recite the goals by memory during their first promotional test. In addition, by the time a student reaches black belt they should be able to clearly define each goal and strive to live them accordingly.
1. High Moral Character
Practicing good citizenship, helping others, especially those who are less fortunate than yourself. Treating others with respect. Being kind to everyone, even people that you don’t like. Living the “Golden Rule” – Treat others the way you want to be treated.
2. Self-Discipline
Being in control of yourself. Having control over your emotions. Setting positive goals and working until the goal is achieved. Expecting the best from yourself and being willing to do the work. Giving your best effort in school, at work and in the dojang.
3. Self-Identity
Having self-confidence. Working to improve yourself. Making choices, which promote health. Liking yourself and taking pride in your achievements.
4. Self-Defense
Protecting your body from harm. Not allowing another to hurt you. Just as important is the defense of your self-worth. Such as, not allowing another to verbally attack you. Defend your internal self as well as your physical self.
5. Physical Fitness
Building your strength through training. Developing endurance, coordination and flexibility. Taking good care of your body through healthy eating, restorative sleep and wise recreation. Being totally drug free. Having a good work out at least three times each week.
